ABOUT LYDIA KRAITMAN

Lydia Kraitman is an award-winning pastry chef and wedding cake designer based in Somerset, UK. She creates bespoke wedding cakes, dessert tables, afternoon tea, and seasonal grazing tables for weddings and celebrations across Somerset and the South West.

Lydia was named Wedding Cake Designer 2025 at the South West Wedding Awards, recognising her work for its design, flavour, and craftsmanship.

She comes from a long line of bakers creating handed-down family recipes made using seasonal ingredients foraged from the local countryside.

After university, Lydia moved to Vancouver, Canada, where she completed her pastry chef training and became a certified Red Seal baker. She graduated top of her class, winning the Baking and Pastry Arts Student of the Year award, and went on to work at prestigious hotels including The Four Seasons and The Fairmont. During this time, she regularly received recognition for her work and created desserts for high-profile guests, as well as catering for large-scale weddings and charity galas.

Upon returning to the United Kingdom in 2019, Lydia continued her professional development by training with highly regarded bakers including Peggy Porschen, Gregory Doyen, and Ksenia Pekina. She then joined The Newt in Somerset as sous pastry chef, before leaving to focus fully on her own cake and pastry business, originally known as The Cottage Table.

Today, Lydia Kraitman Cakes specialises in bespoke wedding cakes and styled dessert tables, with additional offerings including afternoon tea and grazing tables for weddings and events. Her work is known for its considered design, seasonal flavour profiles, and use of locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Lydia’s work has been featured in Belle Bridal, The Wed Magazine, Bouquet & Bells, and Your Somerset, Gloucestershire & Wiltshire. She is also listed on leading wedding platforms including Hitched, Guides for Brides, and The Wedding Collective.

Lydia lives in Somerset, close to where she grew up, with her Ukrainian-Canadian husband, Alex, and their two dogs, Barley and Oats.
