What to Expect from a Wedding Cake Consultation

4 April 2026

Two women laughing in a kitchen, one holding a mug, the other writing in a notebook. A tiered cake and macarons are on the counter.

If you’ve never had a wedding cake consultation before, it can feel oddly mysterious. Do you need to know exactly what you want. Will you be asked to make big decisions immediately. Will there be awkward silences while you pretend to understand the difference between finishes.

None of that happens.

A wedding cake consultation is simply a conversation. One that happens from your sofa, with cake, and without pressure. It’s where ideas start to take shape and where you realise you don’t actually need all the answers yet.

Booking your wedding cake consultation

I offer online wedding cake consultation slots every three months. These are dedicated times set aside purely for chatting through cake, flavour, design, and how everything fits into your day.

They’re relaxed. Informal. And a really good way to calm any background wedding planning noise. We take things one step at a time and focus on creating something that feels like it belongs at your wedding, not just something that looks nice on a screen.

Your cake tasting box arrives first

About a week before your wedding cake consultation, a tasting box lands on your doorstep. This is where the process properly begins.

The tasting box isn’t just about choosing flavours. It’s about discovering what you enjoy, what surprises you, and what you keep

thinking about long after the last slice has gone.

You can choose from two options.

The Signature tasting box includes six flavours that are loved for a reason. Lemon, Chocolate fudge, Carrot and apple, Pear and caramel, Woodland berry, and Strawberry and white chocolate

The Discovery tasting box is for couples who want to explore something a little less expected. Blueberry lavender and Earl Grey, Blackberry and apple, Plum and ginger, Raspberry chocolate and hazelnut, Honey cake, and Elderflower Lemon honey cake

You do not need to eat it all at once. But I also won’t judge if you do.

What happens during a wedding cake consultation

When we meet on Zoom, the conversation is led by you. There’s no checklist you have to work through and no pressure to make final decisions.

We start with your story. How you met. What you love. What matters to you about the day.

From there, we explore design ideas. Inspiration images. Colours. Textures. The overall feel you’re drawn to. Nothing needs to be fixed at this stage. We’re shaping a direction, not locking things down.

Flavours come into focus here too. What stood out from the tasting box. What didn’t. What combinations feel right for you.

We also talk through the practical side. Timings. Delivery. Setup. What happens when. This is the part that often brings the most relief, because suddenly it all feels manageable.

And then questions. All of them. If you’ve written a list, great. If not, they usually appear naturally once we start talking.

How to prepare for your wedding cake consultation

You don’t need to do much, but a little preparation helps.

Gather any inspiration you’ve saved. Cakes, colours, florals, table styling. Even a vague mood is useful.

Make a note of any non-negotiables. A flavour you love. Something you definitely don’t want. Or a small detail that matters more than you expected.

Have your wedding details handy. Date. Venue. Guest numbers. These help shape sensible options.

It’s also helpful to have a rough idea of budget and logistics. Nothing fixed. Just what feels comfortable.

And jot down any questions. The ones you remember are usually fine. It’s the one you forget that always comes back later.

What happens after the consultation

Once your wedding cake consultation is finished, I’ll send a follow-up email summarising everything we discussed. Design direction. Flavours. Practical notes. It becomes your reference point moving forward.

If fresh flowers are involved, I’ll coordinate with your florist so timings line up properly.

If you’re working with a planner or coordinator, I’ll liaise with them to confirm delivery and setup details. I’ll always need a contact who isn’t part of the bridal party, so you don’t have to think about cake on the day.

Around one month before the wedding, you’ll receive your final invoice. Once this is paid, everything is confirmed and ready. At that stage, no further design changes can be made, which ensures the final weeks stay calm and focused.

The final slice

A wedding cake consultation isn’t a sales call. It’s a chance to slow down, eat cake, and turn loose ideas into something real.

You don’t need a finished plan. You just need to show up as you are. I’ll guide you through the rest.

If you’re ready to book your wedding cake consultation, I’d love to chat. From the first slice to the final setup, we’ll make sure everything feels right for your day.
